The picture has to represent you and who you are in the present first, to express to the viewer you. It is also important to put specific details in your picture that express a part of you that you are not but wish to be. This is because who we want to be is also who we are. Just because someone is not a singer at the present moment does not mean that is not who they dream to be or are working towards. The only difference would be if our pictures were to express some one or something that we are not working towards to be or want to achieve in being. Our imagination and goals create us and it is important when expressing ourselves we express those thoughts too. So in my own self portrait I would express a little bit of my self and who I want to be so people can really see or know me.

Smile and say "No Photoshop"

The main points in the article were about fashion magazines retouching and photoshopping pictures. Magazines all over the world create a "perfect" image that not even the models who are in the picture can actually live up too. The article makes points on how this effects peoples own self confidence in which I agree. I agree in all aspects that magazines are turning to much away from real people. Retouching every little thing just to make some one perfect is not what magazines are suppossed to be about. They should be encouraging and show real people. This would help others understand no one is perfect and leave the stress of the "perfect image" off of their shoulders. Photoshop should be used but not in all aspects. If you cannot see a person clearly or the lighting is off than okay. Not to change the size or overall look of the person in the photograph. By doing so this changes the reality of life and makes the fashion industry look like they are promoting people to be fake. The way they shoot their models compared to the way the write articles needs to match up and quick!

Reflection on A)POV, B)Macro/Minutiae,C)Motion

1. My interpretation of each of the three assignments is to help us examine photographs in new ways. We are getting up close and detailed in Macro/Minutiae helping me to understand the importance of detail in a picture. In Motion, we are learning how to capture something "in the moment" and still make it look moving which is really cool. In POV, my interpretation was to become more aware. Taking photos from new angles shapes and changes the pictures in many new ways and it is important to know how to make that effect and know you can.

2. The most important thing I learned in Macro/Minutiae was to really focus on the image I am taking and make sure it has a very descriptive detail. In Motion the most important thing I learned was the difference between blur and motion blur which helped create my image better. In POV the most important thing I learned was to get more creative. Taking photos from new angles really changed my photos in better ways for many of them.

3. I suppose the three assignments were assigned in the order they were to take things one step at a time. It was easiest to start from the easiest to hardest. We worked are way up to perfecting smaller and more individual detail.

4. On the Macro/Minutiae project I think I did well. I liked all my different examples of trees. But I also think I could have taken my pictures from more extreme angles to make the pictures more effective. In the Motion project I really liked my water picture. The photo expressed motion from the beginning to end showing the water moving everywhere. That was an effective motion photo for me. My POV photos were really good, I learned all new angles to take my photos from and it was fun.

5. I wish I would have taken more time in all the projects to get more pictures. I liked the ones I worked with but felt I needed more options. I did not take as many as I would have liked because of lighting schedules verse my own schedule when I had time to take my photos. Next time I will try and get outside real early to take more photos and have more light.

6. My favorite of the three projects was the Macro/Minutiae. Although I thought it was difficult to understand at first, the grids were so cool! I liked seeing all the images come together and it showed me how to connect themes and photos better.

7. The motion topic had an impact on my photography. I think it did because I like to take pictures of moving things a lot and I learned how. I know how to get the perfect motion blur verse a regular blurry image. Also I learned how to make moving photos look detailed and effective which is really helpful.

God in Details

My interpretation of the quote, "God is in the details" means that he is everywhere. When something as simple as a person laughing or smiling happens that is him. He is apart of all those little details that make up people and what they do. When we feel happiness that is a way we can see and feel him. Something beautiful such as a sunset is God. All the details of our lives that make up what we see and how we feel are God. We can capture these moments by taking our photographs. When someone says "I really like that picture" it is like saying wow look what God made for us. By taking photographs we can show and talk about all the beauty he has created for us. This is a good way to teach people about God because they are attracted to photgraphs. We can show them who made the things in that photgraph and how amazing it really is.

Gary Winogrand Quote

"Photography is about finding out what can happen in the frame. When you put four edges around some facts, you change those facts."

This is a very inspirational quote. The way he describes a photo makes you really think and consider it. I feel like it means if you actually capture something in a moment and set it up to frame you can really see it. By having the chance to actually study a person, object or moment it helps you feel and see things you did not before. At that time you may have felt happy and look back at it and realize it was a sad day because maybe the person you were with was leaving or going off somewhere but the photo at first would never tell that. Photography changes the way you see things. It makes events or people seem more detailed because you have as long as you want to look at them. The facts that get changed are what you see every time. This is the cool thing about photography, every time you look at a photo you see or notice something different. I think this is what Gary Winogrand is trying to explain, that we should really consider how amazing photorgraphy is everytime we view or take our own photo. Next time I do I am going to study it every few days and see what changes so i can realize this too.

Lighting Assignment

The lighting project was a fun way to learn about my classmates and my photos. I learned a lot about my pictures and how to take them with more perfection and insight. My picture was of a snow globe that had a heart on the inside with sparkles floating abound it. The light in my picture was behind the globe shinning through it, where I actually just held it right up to my chandelier. My classmates agreed one few key points on my photo such as putting the stand of the globe in the photo or not having it at all because some of it was visible. Also to have a more dim light because my object was transparent and it came off almost too bright. These things helped me to realize different ways I could help perfect make my photo and make it more affective. Some good things they liked about it was the fact of how clear it was so you could know exactly what the picture is of. They also liked the dust that was visible on the edges of the globe and the way the sparkles followed up to the heart. Surprisingly, when I took to the photo and afterwards I did not even notice these things. It was interesting to see how other people noticed things in my photo and their personal insights about it. I agree with the positive and negative comments I got and liked being able to make my own on other peoples photos too. Being able to make honest opinions about other peoples pictures and have them make their own on mine was really good for me. The project helped me to understand and evaluate my pictures and others better. Also it helped me see ways to improve my photography skills and think about the photos I see with more thought. Next time I go to take my photos for an assignment I think I will be able to succeed better. I know what to look for and new things to try. I am happy with the outcome of the project and would not mine doing it again.

Technical or Emotive?

When I first look at a photo, I decide whether or not it is great by the way it makes me feel verse the technical view on it. The reason is because most photos will have a flaw and we all have different opininons on what is technically good or bad. The way something makes you feel is more important because I can connect with it. I like to look at something and know exactly why I like it and 9/10 times it will because of how it makes me feel. Good photos can make you feel happy or sad the point is you know what you feel and why. That is why I look at photos by what it makes me feel because technically, everyone can have technical problems with a photo but not provoke the same emotions.

Andy Goldsworthy Questions

2) The point of working on art that will dissappear with the elements is to see it for the time you have with it. Just becuase it will not last forever does not mean it is no good. Nothing lasts forever so it only makes sense for it to go away. The art is so beautiful that people would not need it to last because they would have the image in their memory. His art is still very unique and pretty even if it does fade. That is the nature of the beast, to beable to see it but only for some time. I think this is one of the coolest things about his works because if it connects to you then you will not need it to stay forever becasue you can still see it and learn a new form of art from it.

4) Learning about Mr. Goldsworthy's style is very intriguing. He is not afraid to go out and create or find something completey different. He seems to always be able to find an idea out of anything. For my own work he inspires me to expand my horizon from what I already know about to finding or creating something different or that I do not know about. I want my work to be as unique in class as his is. I am going to try to remember these things with our projects so I can have soemthing to be so proud or inspired by too. I want to beable to have something that really catches peoples attention like him.

6) I think what makes art is something that is beautiful and inspires a person. Art varies for many people because they have different opinions. Art catches your attention and makes you think about what your looking at. Everything in in this world is art you just have to take the time to explore and notice it. Mr. Goldsworthy's style is also a work of art. This is because art is not just a painting or a poem but more. Art can be something you see in nature or something you create. His stlye is more outdoors and unique which in my opinion makes the best art. He sees things other people would not normally see or take the time to make for example what he creates to catch samon on the beach. It is amazing how his artistic abilities allowed his mind to come up with such a creative idea. Making something different that attracts the eye is art no matter what you are using it for.
